    Learning Support

Salesian College is committed to enabling every pupil to attain their full potential. For this reason Learning Support is available to pupils throughout the College, from Year 7 to the Sixth Form. The provision of Learning Support in the College is designed to enable all pupils, whatever their special needs, to have full access to the curriculum.

The department has three members of staff, the Head of Department who also acts as SENCo and two experienced Learning Support Assistants, all of whom are full time. The department is located in a well-equipped, multi-purpose room, the Don Bosco Centre. We have an open door policy and pupils are welcome before school, at lunchtimes and after school for a range of activities such as supervised individual study, additional help, supervised homework, board games and quiet reading. The advice and support from the department is open to all pupils at Salesian College, not just those that have been identified with specific learning difficulties.

Pupils with an identified need may receive support by being withdrawn from class, on a rota basis, for half an hour a week for individual or small group work. The nature of the support may focus on general literacy or numeracy issues, organisational support, emotional support or specific learning related support. Pupils may also benefit from additional help within the classroom environment.

Pupils who may need additional help can be referred to the Head of Learning Support by their parents or a member of staff. Provision of support is at the discretion of the College.
