Chapel and Chaplaincy
The Chapel is the focus and centre of the spiritual life of the College. It is dedicated to St Francis of Sales, the "Gentleman Saint" of the 16th to 17th centuries, a Doctor of the Church and the patron saint of journalists. He became Bishop of Geneva at the age of thirty-five, and became well known for his gentleness, which was particularly manifested in his work for children.
Don Bosco chose him as the patron saint of his Salesian Order and dedicated his first chapel to him. Our Chapel, situated next to the Chaplaincy, is where College liturgies are celebrated and where special assemblies are held for the Sixth Form or for other years on retreat.
In 2008, the Chapel underwent a major refurbishment and is now the centre for spiritual and liturgical worship within the College. Supported through the work of our Chaplain, Father McGuiness, the Chapel and adjoining Chaplaincy provide a retreat for all students during their time with us at Salesian.
