PE
PE and Games are taught by five full time specialist teachers. The department has good facilities including gym, all-weather hard court area, extensive playing fields and a newly built sports pavilion.
The subject is taught throughout the college and maintains an excellent profile amongst staff and students with weekly awards presented for a wide variety of sporting excellence in full College assemblies and a highly successful Sports Awards at the end of the year recognising all the efforts and successes across the College during the year.
At Key Stage 3 students have the opportunity to practise a diverse range of sports including swimming, rugby, football, cricket and tennis to name amongst many others. At GCSE, the students follow the AQA specification in Physical Education and it remains a popular option with excellent final grades. At AS/A2 Level, the subject continues to draw a good number of students and follows the Edexcel syllabus.
There are regular inter-house sports matches between the houses where boys compete in rugby, football, swimming, badminton, athletics, basketball and cross-country. This gives all boys and girls the chance to participate in competitive but fun sporting situations. Recently the College has started its first Netball team and the girls in the Sixth Form were successful in a memorable first match in November 2010, we look forward to the new netball season and with more girls in the Sixth Form this year we hope to build on the first season successes!
In terms of extra curricular sport, the department offers a number of excellent opportunities. A full fixture list ensures that students have the possibility to play competitive team sport, in a variety of team sports. Furthermore in recent years there have been sports tours to Barcelona for rugby, Paris and Holland (twice) for football and a magnificent adventure of South Africa in the Easter of 2009 on a cricket tour where boys enjoyed the trip of a lifetime and experienced amongst other things a visit to a township where the boys played cricket, safari, highly competitive cricket matches, a trip to the top of Table Mountain and to Robben Island and a real eye opening experience for the members of the trip by visiting a Salesian Community in Cape Town. Recently 42 lucky young men returned from a soccer tour to California which was fabulous and enjoyed by all. The boys played 15 games of soccer against American opposition, visited Alcatraz, experienced white water rafting amongst other breath-taking experiences.
