At Key Stage 3 students focus on the acquisition of listening, practical and theoretical skills. Work is assessed through practical assignments and aural and written tests. At GCSE, the department follows the Edexcel Course, leading to the Edexcel AS/A2 examination in the VIth Form.
The Music Department plays a vital role in the life of the College, with large Junior and Senior Choirs who perform with the College Orchestra on many occasions. In addition, there are a number of specialised music groups who practise and perform regularly, including the Schola, a small group of able singers, a Jazz Band and a brass ensemble. Students are encouraged to perform in a range of events, including small informal concerts as well at the annual Music Evening. Peripatetic instrumental and theory lessons are offered, leading to ABRSM (Royal School of Music) or Trinity/Guildhall graded music examinations.
