The Salesian College Drama Department is staffed by two teachers who have a wide range of teaching and professional theatre/television experience. The department is based in a dedicated Drama Studio and has use of the large stage in the main hall. The Studio is equipped with a lighting rig, lighting board, stage blocks, audio equipment, an interactive white board and full internet access. The Hall is equipped with a professional lighting rig including a computerised lighting board and benefits from a full sound system including radio microphones.

At Key Stage 3 students focus on the acquisition of a variety of skills including Improvisation, Shakespeare in performance, Acting techniques, Mime and Mask work and an introduction to the technical elements of theatre. In year 9 the students are entered for a group LAMDA drama examination.

At Key Stage 4 the department follows the AQA Drama GCSE Course, leading to the AQA GCE AS/A2 course in the VIth Form. Students research, rehearse and perform a variety of plays and devised pieces of theatre.  They are introduced to different styles of theatre and are taught how to evaluate and appreciate the creative process. Visits to the theatre are arranged to enable further appreciation and understanding.

The AS/A2 course is divided into four units and includes study of prescribed plays, theatre practitioners, directors and companies as well as producing performances from published plays and student devised drama. The students also visit the theatre to experience different styles of performance and attend workshops with professional actors/directors.

The Drama Department produces a number of formal and informal productions each year including a large scale College production in the spring term, which is open to all students. There is also an annual year 7 inter-house Drama competition. Extra-curricular opportunities offered include a Drama Club and a newly introduced ‘Street Dance’ Club.
