English

English is taught by five specialist teaching staff in a dedicated suite of rooms housed in the Blackburn Building. Staff are experienced and knowledgeable, and benefit from the use of full internet access and Interactive Whiteboard Technology in each classroom. In addition, there is the option to utilise dedicated film making resources which is a popular extra curricular option.

As part of the Key Stage 3 schemes of work pupils are entered for the English Speaking Board examinations every summer.  Results are consistently exceptional. At Key Stage 4, extended learning opportunities abound, and in terms of academic qualifications, the department follows the AQA 2010 specification course in English Language and English Literature.  The A*-B grade rate has been consistently averaging 90% for a number of years.  In 2010 the rates were 97% A*-B at GCSE and 91% A*-B at A level where students follow the Edexcel specification.

In addition, staff dedicate a significant amount of time to extra curricular activities, including inter-house public speaking competitions, debating club and trips to the National and the Globe Theatre as well as the Lyric in Hammersmith.
