French

The French department is housed in three specialist teaching rooms, each boasting full internet with interactive whiteboards and projectors. The subscriptions to linguascope.co.uk  and Kerboodle offer  superb resources used for key stage 3 and the examination courses.   In addition, there is ample access to other IT facilities enabling oral and listening work to be practised. Each member of the French department is highly experienced, two of whom are French Nationals.

At Key Stage 3, pupils study a wide variety of topics which prepare them for GCSE French, which remains a popular option amongst all students.

The GCSE course followed is that of the AQA 4655 specification.

Again, at AS/A2 Level, the uptake of French is good with students following the Edexcel (8FR01/02) syllabus.

In addition, the French Department offers a diverse choice of extra curricular activities, ranging from a well attended French scrabble club which runs at lunchtimes, regular visits by external theatre companies delivering accessible plays and dialogues to students of all ages. In 2011-2012 Year 8 students will visit Paris, and plans are underway to repeat this year’s excellent trip to Nimes for Year 10 and 11 students. An exchange for Year 12 French students is also being prepared.

For further information please do not hesitate to contact the French Department at smitha@salesiancollege.com.
