Media Studies
Media Studies is taught exclusively in the VIth Form. All students follow the OCR syllabus. The department is housed in a specialist area, and is extremely well-resourced with dedicated PCs, electronic projector, digital cameras, cd write facilities and Pinnacle film editing software.
In addition to this are a wide range of film for study and a library of academic and critical texts for students’ use. The Media Studies course gives students the opportunity to learn the skills of film production. In each year of the course – amongst other tasks and topics – students produce a short film, mastering the skills of camera and editing work. At A2 level, greater research into areas of media influence is afforded, for example topics can include media and censorship.
There are many opportunities for students in the VIth Form to participate in a variety of extra curricular activities which naturally serve to benefit their understanding of the course and the requirements asked of them.
We anticipate that Media Studies will continue to grow from strength to strength as it embeds itself within the VIth Form curriculum.
