About Us

Salesian College, founded in 1901 by the Salesians of Don Bosco, is an independent 11-16 Catholic secondary school for boys with a thriving co-educational Sixth Form.

Our college roll is the largest on record and stands currently at nearly 600.  We are proud to maintain our distinctive Salesian ethos which forms part of all that we strive to do.

Don Bosco, our founder, emphasised the central role of a strong pastoral care system in a Salesian school. We regard education as a partnership involving the student, his family and the school. All three work in harmony to produce the young person of whom we are proud.

To ensure that all students experience individual pastoral care, and to support the academic curriculum, Heads of Year and Form Tutors take responsibility for the day-to-day welfare and progress of each student, supported by all the staff. A programme of Personal, Social and Health Education is delivered during tutor periods.

The life of the College is firmly rooted in a shared Faith, whatever the religious denomination of each pupil may be. Our full-time Chaplain, a Salesian priest, plays an active part in the pastoral and liturgical programme of the College.

He is always available to all members of the College, staff and pupils, their families and friends. The comfortable and welcoming Chaplaincy is a popular drop-in area for all ages and often a haven of peace in a busy world, particularly for younger pupils.
