Pastoral Care
The Sixth Form is an integral part of the College. Our Sixth Form is strong and our students achieve in all areas of study. All students also participate in extra curricular activities which take many forms and are highlighted on the pages under the Sixth Form heading.
The Sixth Form Centre contains a large, well-equipped and comfortable common room, kitchen facilities and a series of private study rooms, each furnished with broadband-connected computers. Please click on the Photo Tours for further images.
When joining the Sixth Form, students are assigned to a tutor, who follows their progress closely. The pastoral aspect of the tutor is as important as the academic aspect; she/he oversees personal development, monitors academic and social progress, and helps overcome any problems or difficulties on the way. Tutor groups meet every morning and afternoon, which provides a focal point and structure for each day.
Our aim has always been not just to provide the very best A level results that the students are capable of, but also to produce courteous and well-rounded young people of whom we are proud. We recognise the great importance that high A level grades have in today’s world, but we never lose sight of the Salesian ideal that education is about more than learning academic disciplines. It is to nurture values and qualities which will equip our young people to take their place as leaders in tomorrow’s society, to be confident in their abilities and to know that their education has equipped them to reach the highest levels in their chosen careers.
Parental Feedback
The following are extracts from the parents of Caroline Norris an example of the excellent contribution that female students have made to the Sixth Form. Mrs Norris comments ‘Caroline has blossomed in the Sixth Form’ … ‘not only is she valued, she knows she is valued and it has been exceptional’ …’the best decision we ever made for our daughter'.
