A Level Geography Trip to West Somerset

Over the weekend of 15-17 October, seven Lower Sixth geography students completed a very successful three day residential fieldwork course based in West Somerset. The main focus involved surveying the River Horner from its source high on Exmoor to the mouth in Porlock bay. The students worked in small groups to collect and then analyse their data. A welcome addition this year were the numerous sightings of Red deer who were active all around the valley. The students also completed an urban study of three contrasting residential areas. This was certainly needed, as several memorably enquired whilst in inner-city Bristol, whether they were in St Pauls, Clifton or the village of Dunster!
This fieldwork forms the basis of the first module of the A Level course taken in January. This was a very busy, but thankfully sunny weekend, which the students enjoyed greatly and gained a lot from it. Click here to view photos.
