2011-12 Year Council and School Council
Following the elections of two Year Councillors from each form group, the five Year Councils have now met for the first time and have received information booklets about the role of 'Student Voice' in the College. Of the 40 Year Councillors, 10 have been elected (2 from each year group) onto theSchool Council during the course of the last week. Candidates were required to address their peers and briefly outline their personal manifesto before a secret ballot was held. The Year Councillors have all received their badges of office in assembly and the newly elected School Councillors will be presented their badges on 31 October.
Last year the Year and School Councils were very active. They continued some initiatives such as waste paper re-cycling and the student run stationary shop and initiated several other useful ideas and projects which included the lunchtime study rooms, a re-design of the College rugby kit, contributing ideas to the re-designed refectory and lobbying for additional outdoor basketball courts and seating. Members of the year 10 and 11 councils also attended the National Salesian Schools' Student Voice Conferences held at Savio House in Cheshire in September and March.
The first full School Council meeting of this year, chaired by the College Captain, will be on Friday 21st October at 12.45pm in the PE Theory classroom.
