Salesian Schools' Leadership Conference

Salesian Schools' Leadership Conference

On 7-9 October, students from the Year 10 and 11 Councils attended the Salesian Schools' Leadership Conference at the Salesian retreat centre at Savio House, Bollington, Cheshire. This was the eighth time that the six Salesian schools from across England had met and the weekend allowed the students to continue to develop the work of their ‘student voice’.

The 56 students worked in mixed groups of boys and girls form all of the schools. They reviewed the various initiatives that each had carried forward through their respective school councils and discussed matters which they hoped to bring forward as well as considering the attributes of a good leader and how they could develop their roles as year and school councillors.

There was plenty of time for recreation and the Farnborough boys enjoyed meeting their counterparts from Wimbledon, Chertsey, Liverpool and Bolton. Many of them will no doubt stay in touch after the conference and these friendships are a real feature of the gatherings.

There was a full programme on the Saturday which ended with a short but thoughtful Mass in the chapel at Savio House. On Sunday, the students reflected upon the many ideas that had been discussed and evaluated the conference to aid future planning.

After breakfast and extensive (and in some cases tearful) farewells the conference ended and the groups departed to their various towns and cities with the realisation for many that they are part of genuine community of Salesian schools and that they can learn a lot from each other. Many thanks to Father Jim Gallagher SDB for planning and leading the weekend and the staff at Savio House for looking after us so well.

The Farnborough group were: Alex Robertson, Dylan White, Will Booth, Harry Punter, Mohammad Durrani, Joel Wish, Drew Lundie and Mr A Moore.
