Foundation stone laid at new £1.3m Salesian College Music School

Today, the Foundation stone for a new £1.3m McGuiness Music School was laid at the College. The Very Reverend Fr Martin Coyle SDB, Provincial of the Salesian order, was Guest of Honour at the ceremony.
“The Music School is set to open in September 2012”, said Mr Patrick Wilson, Headmaster. “Alongside the specialist teaching areas, the Music School will accommodate the school Choir of over 200 boys, Schola, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Sixth Form Girls Choir and many instrumentalists. The state-of-the-art building will have specialist music technology facilities, individual teaching rooms, a recital hall and auditorium.”
Laying the stone, The Very Reverend Fr Martin Coyle SDB said “Music plays a key role in Salesian education and I am confident that this splendid new facility will provide lots of opportunities for the students to learn and thrive. In the words of Don Bosco, “a school without music is a school without a soul.”
