UK Chess Challenge 2011: Hampshire County Final

From the seven school rounds, 10 boys from Salesian College qualified for the Hampshire Final of the UK Chess Challenge 2011; the world’s largest chess competition for school age pupils.
On Sunday 1 May, nine boys took part in the final, playing six games across the course of the day. Aamir Ahmed [1A], Michael Pearcey [1A] and Joshua Castle [5H] (playing in their first tournament), and Christopher Hawes [5D] narrowly missed the qualifying standard for the National Finals in their age groups.
Alexander Millard [2D], Harry Punter [3H], Kumar Dixit [3H] and Joshua Noble [5A – playing in his first tournament] qualified for the Nationals, with Joshua ending as under 16 runner-up; and Daniel Bamber [2D] ended the day as under-13 runner-up with 5 wins from his 6 games, only losing to the eventual Hampshire Champion.
