Year 7 reach District Cup Final!

Year 7 reach District Cup Final!

On Tuesday 15 March, Salesian College’s Year 7 football team beat Frogmore School in the semi final of the Aldershot and District Football Association cup.  Frogmore School took an early lead, but Salesian Captain Conor Fitzmaurice quickly levelled the game with a superb free-kick from 25 yards.  The game was end to end and Salesian were dominating the ball but were struggling to convert chances, with Louie Gilpin, Sam Henneberg and Jacob Daniels all going close.  However, with five minutes to go before half time top scorer at the College, Rory McMichael put Salesian ahead with a deflected finish.  With half time looming Frogmore drew level with a long range free-kick that flew past Matthew Russell and into the Salesian goal.

Half time – 2-2

The second half continued with the Salesian midfield of Fitzmaurice, Gilpin, Leahy, Henneberg and Adelakun creating lots of chances.  With Jacob Webb and Ryan Blake very strong at the back for Salesian, it seemed only a matter of time before Salesian took the lead and they did just that through Jacob Daniels, with Louie Gilpin hitting the bar soon after with an amazing shot.  As the game drew to a close, Frogmore School in their efforts to draw level were hit with quick attacks with Rory McMichael scoring a second in the game and Spencer Wynn adding a fifth to win the game 5-2.

Well done to all the boys including Greg Morley who was excellent at right back and furthermore the depth of the squad was shown with Max Brennan, Harry Kearsley and Rory Chiplin performing well from the bench – there is much competition for places!
