Salesian College top of the league at District and National Athletics

Salesian College top of the league at District and National Athletics

Wednesday 22 June was a sensational day for athletics at Salesian College. In total, eight gold medals were secured, as well as four major trophies at the District and National Athletics!

In quite horrendous wet weather at Reading, the Salesian team of 31 competed superbly with many excellent performances, not just those that clinched golds but throughout the whole team.

The five District Champions were Charlie Mills (U14 800m), Harry Newton (U14 Long Jump), Sam Peddie (U14 Hurdles), Michael Try (U13 Long Jump) and Rory McMichael (U13 Discus). Furthermore, Sam won the best track performance of the day at U14 level and Harry Newton completed a clean sweep with the field trophy.

The U13 and U14 combined team results also added the McDonald’s Team Shield to the collection and meant Salesian College had produced one of it’s most successful days at District Athletics in many a year!

Other top three placings were:-

Joshua Tetlow (2nd, U14 High Jump)

Henry Robinson (3rd, U14 1500m)

Harry Newton (3rd, U14 100m)

4 x 100m Relay U14 team (3rd place)

Daniel Edgar (2nd, U13 1000m & Shot)

Michael Try (3rd, U13 600m)

Patrick Leahy (3rd, U13 150m)

4 x 100m Relay U13 team (3rd place)

As well as the above successes, a small Salesian team went to the ISA National Athletics Championships representing London West. Some of the finest runners in Salesian recent history again performed with distinction. There were gold medals for Richard Allen (U17 1500m), Toby Starling (U17 800m) and Harry Barnett (U17 hurdles). Furthermore, Toby secured a bronze in the U17 400m and Owen Wagstaff finished a very creditable 5th place in the U17 1500m. The performance of the Salesian boys was a big help in London West winning the Senior boys event!

A very successful day for all, well done!
