12 Gold Medals at Inter-Salesian Athletics Championships!

12 Gold Medals at Inter-Salesian Athletics Championships!

On Friday 17 June, the annual Inter-Salesian Athletics Championships was held at Salesian School Chertsey.  The boys performed extremely well, the Year 7 team were runners-up, the Year 8 team won with an amazing six first places out of the 13 available, the Year 9 team were 4th and the Year 10 missed out on victory by a single point despite again six first places!  The results when combined placed the Salesian College in 2nd place with Salesian School Chertsey winning the crown for the first time in five years.

A special mention for Toby Starling who doubled up and won both the 800m and 400m at Year 10 and Richard Allen for the fourth year in a row won the 1500m – a sensational achievement from both boys.  Furthermore, in Year 10 Max Sears won gold in the javelin and Domenico Iorio was champion in the long jump.   The last Under 15 champion of the day had quite an afternoon after falling in the hurdles when looking set for 2nd place, he picked himself up completed the race and went straight over to the high jump.  From here he produced five immaculate jumps, not knocking the bar off once to win the high jump with a leap of 1.6m – amazing effort Louis Staniland!

Further successes were a double for Harry Newton in the 100m and long jump.  Debut gold’s for Rory McMichael in the discus, Michael Try in the 800m and Daniel Edgar in the shot.  Sam Peddie was at his imperious best in the Under 13’s hurdles totally destroying the opposition, furthermore in Year 8 Henry Robinson dominated the Year 8 1500m to win gold.

There was a further track double from Charlie Mills in the championship winning Year 8 team.  He dominated both the 400m and 800m.

Well done to all those who took part.
