Outstanding work from the Year 7 football team

Outstanding work from the Year 7 football team

On Tuesday 25 January, eight Year 7 boys represented Aldershot and District Schools at the English Schools FA 5-a-side regional competition after winning the District competition before Christmas.  The performance from all eight boys was sensational with the College winning the group stages with a record of Played 7, won 5, drawn 2, lost 0 and a goal difference of 22.  Champions came from Oxford, Guernsey, North Dorset, Portsmouth and Jersey amongst other areas to take part.

Captain and inspirational performer Conor Fitzmaurice scored nine goals in the group stages including a superb hat-trick to win the group, furthermore Louie Gilpin scored five goals and gave a fantastic performance.  The back line of Ryan Blake and Matthew Russell in goal were first-class and the marauding wing backs of Jacob Daniels and Samuel Henneberg were superb with both boys scoring fantastic goals in the group stages.  With Rory McMichael and Michael Try working hard too, the eight boys were outstanding and a credit to the College and the District.

However, they suffered heart-break in the semi-final losing 2-1 in extra time to the champions of East Berkshire.  After dominating the game captain Conor Fitzmaurice scored a fantastic goal late into the second half to take the game to golden goal and despite Rory McMichael having the ball in the net late it was not given and Salesian suffered heart-break late on.

Mr Cousins, Head of PE commented “the boys were simply outstanding, their effort, work-rate and desire were first-class and they were a shining example of how football should be played.”
