Year 7 Basketball League and Cup Double
On Thursday 17 February, the Year 7 Basketball team became Aldershot and District cup winners, adding to their league success the week before. The boys went the whole season unbeaten, winning 9 from 9 and scoring 309 points.
This was a game to remember, however in the first quarter Salesian made things look easy, leaping into a 11-2 lead at the break. The second quarter was very even giving Salesian a 15-6 lead at half time. However a surge from Yateley made the game very tense. Salesian still had a lead going into the last quarter, but that quickly changed with Yateley seeming to put everything into the game. The boys found themselves 21-19 down with just 2 minutes remaining, however a burst forwards ended in the game being tied at 21-21 when the final whistle sounded.
The tension was gripping as the game went into over time and therefore sudden death. The next basket would take the title! Straight from the tip, Max Brennan got his hand to the ball, pushing it into the arms of Rory McMichael, who drove towards to the basket. A composed captain took his 2 steps to lay the ball up and sink the basket that would take home the silverware. A fantastic effort from everyone involved and a special mention to Harry Kearsley for a Man of the Match 12 points.
