A Level trip to Paris

On Thursday 3 February, 11 A level students travelled to Paris to attend two topical conferences. On day one, the students visited the Eiffel Tower, the “Centre Pompidou” and went on a river cruise on the famous “Bateaux Mouches”. On the second day, the students visited the Louvre museum and walked down the Champs Elysées before attending a conference “Focus on French” which took place in the Palais des Congrès. It was an interesting conference about the environment and the media.
The second conference the boys attended was about “Your Future in Europe” and the guest speakers were Dermot Murnaghan, Shami Chakrabarti and Peter Luff. At the end, students were encouraged to put their own opinions and questions forward. Benjamin Leahy was selected to ask a question to Shami Chakrabarti about prisoners and their rights to vote. In the evening we met with Nick Boyle an ex-Salesian student who is now working in Paris for 9 months with the Erasmus programme.
On the final morning, the boys visited the Père Lachaise cemetery reputed to be the world's most-visited cemetery. The students were pleased to visit the tomb of Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrisson but also the graves of those who have enhanced French life over the past 200 years.
