Salesian College excel at Public Speaking competitions

Aldershot Rotary Public Speaking Competition

On 19 January an intermediate and senior team entered the annual Aldershot Rotary Public Speaking competition at the Rushmoor Council Chambers in Farnborough.  The intermediate Year 9 team of Freddie Offley, Cameron Hogg and Alex Berryman gave an outstanding performance.  Cameron’s speech on ‘Corruption in Sport’ was well-researched and very interesting.

The senior Year 10 team of Jordan Maxwell, Alexander Murray and Anand Sankar were awarded a highly commended second place.  Alexander’s speech, entitled ‘Innocent or Guilty’, about Europe’s colonial legacy, was also challenging and provocative.

Both teams delivered expert and sophisticated presentations and are to be congratulated.

English Speaking Union Public Speaking Competition

On 25 January, Salesian College took part in another annual and prestigious competition at Farnborough Hill School with seven teams participating. This event is a debate with the Chairman and Questioner working with a Speaker from another team whose speech they have not heard.

The team of Louis Browne, Finlay Pelling and Sebastian Notarmarco Pope was an expert and lively presentation from all three boys, well done!  Finlay’s speech entitled ‘What is normal is determined by the society in which we live’ provided lively debate.

A Special Mention must go to Alexander Morgan who has worked tirelessly helping to coach the teams and has also supported the boys by attending the competitions.
