Salesian College Celebrates Stunning GCSE Results

Salesian College was a place of great excitement and personal satisfaction as boys, parents and staff celebrated stunning GCSE results on Thursday morning 25 August 2011.
In an all boys school from 11 to 16, the achievement of 63% gaining 7 or more A*/A grades each is outstanding and bears witness to the benefit of single sex education for boys from 11 to 16 before the opportunity, with its own benefits, of co-education in the Sixth Form at Salesian prior to University. The overall pass rate of 5 A*-C grades was 99%, with all our young men passing in English and Maths at high grades. The percentage of A* and A grades was higher than last year with 56% being A* and A and 81% being A*-B overall. The average number of GCSE subjects awarded to each student was 10, with the majority achieving 11 A*-C grades.
Amongst the many high performers in this stunning Year 11 were 29 boys who achieved 10 A*/A grades each with many gaining 11A*/A grades each. Leading this group were Benjamin Martin who was awarded 9A*s and 2As, whilst Finlay Pelling achieved 8A*s and 3 As. Luke Dailey also achieved 9A*s and 2 As with Robert Hislop being awarded 8A*s and 3As. The very top performers this year however, were Samuel Draper, Robert Gladding and Joshua Castle who each achieved 10 A*s and 1 A in their 11 GCSEs awarded.
Mr Patrick Wilson, Headmaster commented “At a time when the performance of boys at GCSE is a national concern, for our young men to achieve both individually and as a cohort such stunning and prestigious GCSE results is a cause of great celebration and personal satisfaction, for them, their families and the College. Each individual boy performed to the best of his ability and staff are to be congratulated for their dedication and commitment to ensure that this is the case. These boys have much to look forward to in the equally successful Salesian College Co-Educational Sixth Form and I wish them deserved, continued success.”
