Salesian College outstanding A Level results

The publication of A Level results this year was an anxious time for students, parents and the College. With changes to the university fee structure in 2012, the competition for places at university this Autumn is particularly intense at a time when grades required in relation to offers have been raised and places are strictly limited by Government spending restrictions.
It was with great delight and pride that Salesian College was able to celebrate a 98% pass rate at A Level with 84% of all grades awarded being at A*-C. The satisfaction of seeing our young men and women gaining deserved places at university and being able to look forward with excitement to their next stage of development was very gratifying.
Among the outstanding students this year were John Blackwood with two A*s and an A who will read Electronic Engineering at Southampton. Thomas Dodington achieved three A*s and an A and will read Engineering at Bath whilst Robert Guy achieved an A*, A and B and will read English and Creative Writing at Royal Holloway. Michael Marron achieved four A Levels including an A* and an A and will go to Cardiff to read Computer Science.
The outgoing School Captain Alexander Morgan gained two As and a B to secure his place at Durham University to read Theology. Brendan O'Connor was awarded an A*, two As and a B and will read Environmental Engineering on an International Programme at University College London. Joshua Pallett gained two A's and a B to read Geography at Birmingham University.
Richard Parkin achieved an A*, two As and a B, his four A Levels winning him a place at Leeds University to study English Language and Literature. Also achieving four A Levels was Jamie Pelling who was awarded an A* and three As. Jamie will read History at the London School of Economics.
Christopher Price achieved one A* and two As to secure his place at Surrey University to read Computer Science. Luke Storrie also achieved an A* and two As and will study for the degree of Master of Marine Biology with study abroad at Southampton University, one of the most prestigious degrees in this field and in the world.
Kieran Sull the outgoing School Vice Captain was a senior member of the very successful Salesian College football tour to the West Coast of the USA this summer. During our stay in California, the Salesian tour party visited Stanford University at Palo Alto on the outskirts of San Francisco. Kieran was very impressed by Stanford and the opportunity to study there. Kieran will take a gap year to explore this opportunity whilst his outstanding results of an A* and two As will gain him entry to leading Russell Group Universities in the UK if he wishes to pursue this route.
Mr Patrick Wilson, Headmaster observed "The Sixth Form experience at Salesian College, whilst focussed on achieving the best academic results each individual student is capable of and assisting them to fulfil their academic potential, is also focussed on enriching our young men and women in the Sixth Form to become emotionally secure, confident but not arrogant individuals. The wide range of opportunities provided for them in the two years of Sixth Form life at Salesian develop their broader interests and skills, both sporting and cultural. I thank the staff of the College who have worked with dedication to serve the students and I congratulate both the students and the staff on the outstanding results at A Level achieved this year. I wish our young people well in their future endeavours and assure them of our continued support if ever needed."
