Sports Leaders organise "Superstars"

Thursday 31 March and Thursday 7 April saw the culmination of this year’s Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership. 18 Lower Sixth students have been following the course every week since September. They have been developing their leadership, presentation and organisational skills through the medium of sport.
The final two sessions were entirely planned and lead by the Sports Leaders who had planned the ‘Superstars’ competition for teams of boys from Years 7 and 8. They designed eight different activities based upon skills ranging from athletics, hockey, rugby, football, basketball, table tennis and fitness. Scores were awarded for each event and the eventual winners were the St Hugh’s 1 team of Kiaran Holland, Harry Till and Adam Mayhew.
The Level 2 CSL award will re-commence in September for students who will then be in the Lower Sixth. This year’s group were: Sam Barker, Nick Bibby, Laurence Blackhurst, Kirsten Brown, Alex Bond, Jonny Daines, Tom Eden, Matt Franks, Harvey Dixon, Joe Jones, Josh Longson, Harvey Mills, Dahlin Mony, Andrew Murphy, Matthew O’Connor, Chris Parnaby, Elliot Sadler, Freddie Salmon and Sageera Thavendrarajan.
A number of the Sixth Form students have already completed the voluntary leading section of the award having coached and assisted at various sports clubs in the community and have been recommended for the award. Several more students will complete the award over the Easter break. As part of the course, all of the students also attained the St John’s Ambulance Junior First Aid Award.
