Salesian College celebrates European Languages Week

During the last week of September, the College celebrated European Languages Week through a wide range of activities which included: enjoying different foods at German, French, Italian and Spanish brunches and lunches; creating ‘Wycinaniki’ (Polish paper cut outs) in Art lessons, a languages competition in the library and undertaking other subjects in a different language.
Isabel Cardona, MFL Enrichment Programme Coordinator commented “By raising the awareness amongst our students of the importance of modern foreign languages in the world, I believe it will improve their chance of effective communication and success in an international context and therefore support global understanding. In a world were nations and people are dependent upon each other for different reasons, understanding other cultures is paramount.”
We thank Mrs Diana Kavanagh, former Head of Modern Foreign Languages at a specialist language college, who gave a wonderful presentation at Assembly and launched our European Languages Week. Mrs Kavanagh taught Italian throughout the day and has offered to teach Italian in the College at lunchtime or after school.
