Salesian sweep many Gold and Silver medals in National Swimming Gala

Salesian sweep many Gold and Silver medals in National Swimming Gala

On Saturday 20 November, Salesian College made up a large cohort of the London West Swimming Team at the National Championships held in Coventry.

London West performed very well finishing second overall and the Salesian members represented the area particularly well.  Rebecca Fisher made history again as the first ever Salesian young lady to win medals at a national swimming event winning an incredible three gold medals in the 100m breaststroke and both the medley and freestyle relays – a magnificent achievement.

There were medals across the team with success for Oliver Broad (1st in the medley relay and 2nd in the butterfly and freestyle relay), Leander Rodricks (1st in the medley relay and 2nd in the freestyle relay), Jacob Webb (1st in the medley relay, 2nd in the freestyle relay and 3rd in the backstroke), Harry Hudson (1st in the front crawl and 2nd in the medley relay), Elliot Broad (1st in the freestyle relay, 2nd in the medley relay), Justin Hanson (1st in the freestyle relay and 2nd in the medley relay, 200m IM and 100m breaststroke) and Owen Wagstaff (1st in the freestyle relay and 2nd in the medley relay).

A special mention also for Richard Allen who swam superbly to win the 100m backstroke and freestyle relay and he finished 2nd with the team in the medley relay.  Michael Harris produced a dominant swim to win gold in the 100m backstroke and took a silver medal in both the relays.  Furthermore William Fuller took bronze in the 200m IM and silver medals in both the relays, a feat matched by William Gallagher too.  A very successful day for all involved, congratulations to the swimming team!
