Building Hope at Christmas

As part of the world-wide Salesian family, our College has, for many years supported Salesian projects in Africa and South America. In recent years the Salesian mission in Zambia has expanded and we have become aware of the much needed work of the Salesian Sisters of Mary Help of Christians at the City of Hope in Lusaka, with some of the poorest and most disadvantaged children.
In August 2010, two members of staff, accompanied by last year's School Captain took part in a fact finding mission to Lusaka. Next year, a group of Sixth Form students and staff will return to Zambia to assist in Salesian projects. In the meantime, we would like to focus on helping the Sisters to build a new school and provide help with buying the essential items that are so badly needed. To this end, students will have brought home an envelope marked ‘Building Hope at Christmas’ and this contains a brochure detailing some of the most needed and practical items that the City of Hope is so desperate for and explains how we are asking for your help.
Please view the gallery of photographs taken during the fact finding mission in August.
A dedicated website will shortly go live, which will contain up-to-date information of our ‘Sharing the Light of Education’ Zambian project with the City of Hope and of which ‘Building Hope at Christmas’ is the first fundraising initiative.
