Super Seven Heaven!

Super Seven Heaven!

Salesian College 1st XI Football team secured the Super 7 crown today beating Bearwood 3-1.  Going into the game needing a win to secure the crown Coach Cousins pumped the boys up with some cracking pre-match tunes including music from Gladiator and Westlife, our American superstar Greg Pennamon was heard singing the tunes from the front of the bus!

Salesian started in fine form and Amrit Sagoo and David Gridley were inspired in centre-midfield, displaying Carrick and Huddlestone ability on and off the ball!  Sam De’Ath and Matt Franks on the flanks were working hard and producing excellent supply to the strikers Matt Cheesman and Tim Cureton.  However, Salesian could not put the ball in the net and it took a fine save from ‘keeper James Kelly to keep the scores level at the break.

Nick Jeffs and Elliot Sadler at the back were having mighty fine games and with Matt Symons, Matt O’Connor and Adam Murphy defending well it seemed only a matter of time before Salesian took the lead and they did.  A lightning quick break down the left, a lovely cross from Sam De’Ath and at the back post Dan Cranstone nipped into roll the ball back across the ‘keeper and give Salesian the lead.  After a Bearwood goal was ruled out for offside, Amrit Sagoo and David Gridley cranked up the pressure and were rewarded when Ross MacSwan tapped the ball in after super work from Tim Cureton.  Salesian were bossing the game and scored again with a sublime strike from 40 yards out from Matt O’Connor.  With time running out Bearwood scored after beating the offside trap.  But the game and the title was Salesian’s – a quite magnificent performance men!

Man of the Match – very tight call between Elliot Sadler, Nick Jeffs, Sam De’Ath, Dan Cranstone, Amrit Sagoo and David Gridley, but it goes to Amrit Sagoo – well done young man!

Those in the running for player of the season include Amrit ‘Carrick’ Sagoo, David ‘Huddlestone’ Gridley, Nick ‘Campbell’ Jeffs, Elliot ‘Distin’ Sadler  and Dan ‘Fabio’ Cranstone.  Although huge congratulations to all players, you have made Coach Cousins very proud!

Can you match this Year 11 on Friday in your huge Semi-Final…may the force be with you!

Coach Cousins

Salesian College 3rd XI Football team became Champions of the Super Seven League and finished off the season in style with a 10-0 win against Bearwood. Salesian started brightly with Alan Hall and Shaan Joshi working hard and supplying the ammunition for Josh Clark and Tom Pockett. The early stages saw Salesian miss a number of chances before Josh Clark cheekily chipped the goalkeeper to make it 1-0. By half time the score was 4-0 and Alan Hall and his troops came in buzzing at half time. Mr Bunyan wanted 10 goals by the end of the game and the boys duly delivered with 6 more goals coming in second half.  There was even enough time for Joshua Bramley to save a penalty which was the 4th one this season. David Robinson was outstanding at the back with his Cafu and Roberto Carlos forward runs and fully deserved the Man of the Match Award.

It has been a fantastic season with some great individual performances. Shaan Joshi’s energy and commitment (Scott Parker like), Alan Hall’s passing ability (Xabi Alonso-like) and Robert Maclaey leading his troops at the back (John Terry-like). I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the boys who have represented the 3rd team this year and the contribution you have made in becoming champions of the first Super Seven League.
