Bull & Giltrap fire Salesian U14s to County Cup Finals!

On a wet afternoon Salesian College’s Under 14 team challenged Hounsdown for a place in the U14 County Cup Final.  After the disappointment of losing out on penalties in Year 7 Saleisan College’s captain David Richardson and coach Cousins were determined it would not happen again!

There was lots of tension before the game, not helped by losing key players Ollie Spite and Matt Wyke to injury before the game.  However, after some words of inspiration from the Gaffer and a warm up from head coach Bunyan the boys were buzzing and ready to go!

With a strong wind in Salesian’s face in the first half it was hard to get the ball down and play, although Connor Giltrap, Ben Rosoman and Rob Deans in particular were trying and Salesian started well.  However, a long ball over the top was tucked away by the Hounsdown centre forward to give them the lead.  Salesian worked hard and Callum Chiplin was having a very good game in the middle and after a flowing move down the left involving Sparrow and Ollie East, Connor Giltrap nipped in to tuck away the cross and make it one each at half time.

A real treat awaited the Salesian boys at half time with lucozade and easter eggs (only small ones!) – although Mr Bunyan decided to eat most himself!  The second half was all Salesian who were playing some great football in the mud and wind and Rob Deans was having a magnificent game for the second game running.  Ben Cave came on to replace Ollie East and worked hard down the left side, linking up well with David Richardson.  The game changed on two pieces of brilliance from the goal machine Jack Bull.  Twice he beat the offside trap to finish well across the ‘keeper to give Salesian a 3-1 lead.  Houndsdown hit back hard and Michael Gregory, Dom Iorio, Sam Jefferies and David Richardson were working hard to keep them at bay.  However, with 10 minutes left a cross from the right was headed towards goal where Ryan Simmons made a brilliant low save but could not hold on and the game was back to 3-2.

Salesian were not to be denied though and after great work from Ben Rosoman and Callum Chiplin, Oxford’s finest Connor Giltrap raced onto a through ball to seal the victory and send parents, staff, supporters, WAGS, injured Ollie Spite and Matt Wyke and many others wild!

Now for the final men….
