Cheesman seals victory for Salesian...

For the second year running Salesian College’s U16 team reached the District Cup Final to be played at Farnborough Town FC after Easter.  In a very hard fought match Salesian took the lead against Weydon after ace marksman Matt Cheesman gambled on defensive indecision and slotted home a lovely finish from 8 yards out.  It took a great save from Salesian’s number one James Kelly and some magnificent defending from captain and Man of Match Elliot Sadler, Adam Murphy and the Irish Superstar Matt O’Connor to preserve the early advantage.

Matt Franks and Adam Elstow were having super games in the centre of midfield and giving Weydon no time on the ball.  The second part of the first half was played in driving rain and wind and turned into a stalemate with chances at a premium.

The second half continued to be well contested with Matt Cheesman and Joe Egerton getting through lots of work up front for Salesian and Dan Cranstone and Sam De’Ath giving the Weydon defence plenty to think about with pace and guile out wide.  With Elliot Sadler, Adam Murphy and Tom Eden getting through so much work at the back it looked like Salesian would hold on to their lead.  However, it took a great last ditch tackle from Elliot Sadler, Michael Jepp and Matt O’Connor to preserve the lead.

The final whistle went and Salesian had many the final – well done men, a great work ethic shown, now for the Final!
