Salesian Golf Championship

Salesian Golf Championship

During half term, a group of 26 boys took part in the annual Salesian Golf Championship at Southwood Golf Club.  The Championship was played in the true spirit of the game, with the Sixth formers contributing to the atmosphere by coming attired in their best shorts and cloth caps, providing a welcome touch of colour and glamour to the proceedings.

It is pleasing to report that the players did not emulate their professional role models by taking hours to complete their rounds, and the day progressed at a cracking pace. Holes were parred on a regular basis, with some being birdied. Scores came tumbling down as the golfers grappled with the course. Notable players included the new Junior Champion Harry Uzzell, who not only won the “nearest-the-pin” competition, but also completed the course in an eye watering Net score of 75.

As the day progressed, the lower handicap players engaged in a fierce and closely fought battle. The lead changed with each hole in a gripping contest but, as has to happen, a winner eventually emerged. With a fantastic score of 6 over par Gross, the 2010 Salesian Champion Golfer is Nicholas Halliday. The runners up were Benjamin Cornwell and Adam Corser, who were just 2 strokes behind.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all the boys and staff members who made it such an enjoyable day, and we look forward to a repeat contest next year.
