Staff make it 4 straight wins!

Staff make it 4 straight wins!

In the annual Staff versus Lower Sixth Cricket match played on the last day of term, the Staff team were chasing their fourth straight win over the young guns at the College.  Lower Sixth captain Ross MacSwan was ultra confident (as he always is!) and was talking his team up to anyone that would listen – however, the Staff knew it was nervous energy after his struggles with his cardio-vascular fitness recently!!

Mr Yates, the Staff Captain won the toss and inserted the Lower Sixth, with Guest and Superstar bat Alex Cave and captain MacSwan opening the batting.  After a confident start MacSwan got out cheaply and the wickets kept falling with all but Cave struggling to get bat on ball!  Wicket takers included Mr Bunyan, Mr Moore, Mr Gore, Mr Price, Mr Eaton, Mr Melvin and Mr Shepherd with catches coming from Mr Yates and Mr Cousins behind the stumps.  Cave was the only man, aside from extra’s to reach double figures and he perished for 17 trying to hit the ball over the top.  The Sixth Form finished on a paltry 54 all from 12 overs!

The Staff were confident of knocking the runs off quickly and ending the term on a high…

The Staff opened with Mr Cousins and Mr Price, however, the former perished early on to give the Sixth Form hope.  Mr Smith strolled to the wicket at number 3 and hit a couple of cracking off-drives.  With Mr Cousins batting well at the other end and hitting Alex Cave for three classy four’s it seemed only a matter of time before the staff were victorious.  But the Sixth Form struck back with John Blackwood bowling Mr Cousins for 17 and Michael Silvester bowling Mr Smith for 16.  It was left to the middle-order of Mr Eaton and Mr Shepherd to see the staff home winning inside 8 overs to make it 4 straight wins….

Roll on the class of 2011, can you beat the untouchables?
