In the opening games of the Super 7 Football Tournament Salesian played Leighton Park and opened with 3 wins, with the 1st XI winning 2-1, 2nd XI 4-1, 3rd XI 3-1. Furthermore the 4th XI played Reading Blue Coats and won 1-0.
The 1st XI match was very tight throughout with the central defence of Elliot Sadler and Nick Jeffs having strong games for Salesian. Salesian fell behind early on, but gradually got back into the game with Captain David Gridley and Amrit Sagoo working well in the centre of midfield. Just before half time a back post corner from Sam De’Ath was expertly volleyed in by ace marksman Matt Cheesman to level the scores. The second half was a tight affair with both teams having a goal chalked off for offside, however in the 6th minute of injury time Ross MacSwan popped up with a deflected header to win the game for Salesian. Halliford await Salesian next week at Home in the next round of games. Man of the Match Elliot Sadler said ‘a good start, but plenty of room for improvement’.
The 2nd XI had an easier win beating Leighton Park 4-1 with goals from captain Howard Smith (2), Joe Egerton and a first ever goal from James Heyden. The 3rd XI had a good win on the road beating
