Year 8 Win District Football League!

In a thrilling game in the rain last night Salesian College won the Under 13 Aldershot and District Football League Division 3 beating Amery Hill 3-2. Salesian started well and created countless chances with Harry Pockett, Cameron Hogg and Max Fox all denied by the Amery ‘keeper. Against the run of play Amery took the lead after Ryan Simmons made a block the Amery striker turned in the rebound to give them the lead. Salesian hit back with Paul Keenan and Ross Kirkland pulling the strings in the midfield and after a great slide through pass by Ted Turver down the left Harry Pockett finished with great style to level the scores at half time 1-1.
The second half was again all Salesian, but unbelievably Amery took the lead after a mix up at the back. Salesian worked hard to get back into the game with Ross McMichael and Adam Peever proving a good partnership at the back and Max Ryan, Jacob Hayden and Jamie Lambert all working well down the left side of the team. With man of the match Jack ‘Vedran’ Franklin bossing the right side with some rampaging runs and strong tackles it looked only a matter of time before Salesian scored, however Amery survived. Chris Bates and Harry Pockett were causing countless problems for the Amery defence but could not find an equaliser. But with just five minutes remaining Ted Turver hit a scorcher to level the game. With a draw good enough to win the league Coach Bunyan went for the winner! However, it took two magnificent saves from Ryan Simmons to keep the scores level. Deep into injury time a free-kick from Max Fox was floated into the box for Ross McMichael to glance in the winner and seal the win!
The Year 8 Salesian team ended with a perfect league record of Played 5 won 5, scoring 24 conceding just 5. Well done to all boys involved.
