Tri Salesian Soccer Success!
Raw continues his magnificent start to the season…
This Saturday morning Salesian College played 7 games of football and had a successful morning on the whole. This took the games played at the College to 80 games to date, with victories in 53, 12 draws and only 15 defeats across all College teams.
The Year 7 ‘A’ team had two very hard games this morning in a triangular tournament. Playing Salesian Chertsey who beat them last week 2-1, Salesian Farnborough performed especially well and won a thriller 3-2. After going one down to a powerful header from a corner Farnborough’s Josh Raw powered through the Chertsey defence and coolly beat the Chertsey ‘keeper to tie the scores at one each at half-time. The second half was hard fought with Farnborough captain Ben Morris having an excellent game on the left and centre-back’s Charlie Whitehead and Jack Jefferies dealing well with the pacy Chertsey forwards. Farnborough took the lead through a deflected Callum Rose goal and needed a fantastic save from ‘keeper Max Taylor to maintain their lead. However, Chertsey levelled with another header from a corner and it looked like the match would be a draw. However, after a little flick-on by Alistair McKinnon Farnborough forward Alex Chalker powered through and hit the winner for Farnborough – a great game well played boys.
Man of the Match – Josh Raw, energy, power, work-rate and the golden touch in front of goal – magnificent.
The Year 7 ‘A’ team then took on Salesian Battersea in their next game. Battersea took advantage of tired Farnborough legs to take an early two goal lead. However, a classic free-kick from Ben Morris made the score 2-1 at half-time. Farnborough then dominated the second half and levelled through the fantastic Josh Raw with the aid of a small deflection. Farnborough battered the Battersea goal but just could not score with Alex Chalker, Alistair McKinnon and Ben Morris (twice) going very close and Ben Morris hit the wood-work with a bullet shot from his sublime left-foot. With Josh Vincent, James Hearn, James Martin, Joe Graham and Robert Fraser all performing well for Farnborough there is much competition for places in the remaining games this season. The game finished 2-2.
Man of the Match – Josh Raw, a magnificent double performance from Salesian’s midfield powerhouse, just pipping Ben Morris and Charlie Whitehead to the award.
The Year 8 ‘A’ team took on both Chertsey and Battersea as well in the tournament. Farnborough started slowly in both games and lost both games 4-0 and 2-0 respectively, although there is much to look forward to with this talented team. Captain Paul Keenan was Farnborough’s best performer versus Chertsey and Adam Peever took the man of the match award versus Battersea.
The Year 7 ‘B’ team played out a hard fought 2-2 draw against Chertsey. Farnborough’s goals coming from Rishi Shah and Josh Samways, with Luke Evans being named man of the match.
Farnborough’s Year 8 ‘B’ team gave the Year 8 ‘A’ team plenty to think about by beating Chertsey 10-1! Chris Bates and Josh Curran both scored hat-tricks (the 13th and 14th from boys at the College this season), Tom Hosty scored two, with Ollie Nokes and Ted Turver chipping in with a goal each. James O’Connell was named man of the match for an all action performance.
To complete the day Salesian College’s Year 9 team beat Leighton Park 9-0. With captain and District player David Richardson returning to the team Farnborough had a very strong team available. They started the game well and were 7 up at half time, with ‘keeper Harry McGill having little to do! The game finished 9-0, with goals from Sam Jefferies, Callum Chiplin, Ollie Spite (2), Jack Bull (2), Matt Wyke, Rob Deans and Domenico Iorio. Connor Giltrap was named man of the match for the second week running – his new found fitness levels seem to be really helping! The squad is looking strong and with Adam Cauldwell in form on the right, Michael Gregory returning to his very best at centre half, Ollie East offering options on either flank and Ben Cave and Isaac Cowdrill returning to the squad confidence is high ahead of some huge games coming up in the next couple of weeks.
Well done to all boys this morning.
