Another Hat-trick for Salesian soccer!

Another Hat-trick for Salesian Soccer!

After winning the first three games of the Super 7 Soccer Tournament last week Salesian repeated their success on Wednesday with a further three victories.

The 1st XI took part in a hard game against a very quick Halliford team.  With the Salesian defence in very good form led by Nick Jeffs and Elliot Sadler they took the lead when a corner from the right from Matt O’Connor was turned into the net by the Halliford right back.  Salesian worked hard throughout the half and Dan Cranstone and Matt Franks down the right and Matt Symons and Matt O’Connor down the left were causing Halliford problems with their forward movement and penetration.  However, just before half time ‘keeper James Kelly made a terrific point blank save to send Salesian in at the break one up.

The second half saw Halliford start strong but captain David Gridley and partner in crime Amrit Sagoo were having good games in the middle of the park for Salesian.  Second half substitutes Tim Cureton, Sam De’Ath and Adam Murphy added much needed fresh impetus and legs to the team and with Matt Cheesman and Ross MacSwan in menacing form up front Salesian were looking threatening.  In the last twenty minutes this threat turned to goals and two beauties they were! With magnificent strikes from the Salesian hot shots sealing the game with MacSwan hitting a screaming volley and goal ace Cheesman striking a right foot rocket high into the net to seal a three nil win for David Gridley’s unbeaten 1st XI.  Nick Jeffs was the Salesian Man of the Match just pipping Dan Cranstone and Matt Cheesman, congratulations Nicky!

Next week there are no games for any of the three teams, so be prepared men for a cardio-session of gigantic proportions!

The 2nd XI won a tight game at Halliford 1-0 with a magnificent 20 yard chip from Man of the Match Joe Egerton and the 3rd XI continued their impressive start with a 6-1 win versus Halliford with 2 more goals for the goal machine Andy Lloyd, Tom Pockett (2), Matt Brown and Tom Coussins, with Tom Pockett being named Man of the Match.

Well done men!
