5-a-side Salesian dominance!

5-a-side Salesian dominance!

On Friday 10 December, Salesian College won the Aldershot and District 5-a-side U12 football tournament with a magnificent unbeaten performance.  In the group stages, Salesian played four games and won all four!

In the first game Salesian beat Mill Chase Community School with goals from Louie Gilpin, captain Conor Fitzmaurice and two from Jacob Daniels.  The next challenge was a big game versus Weydon School but a solid Salesian performance took care of the game with an own goal and a super strike from Louie Gilpin leading to a 2-0 victory.

The third game was against Ash Manor School and again Salesian was victorious with goals from Louie Gilpin, Conor Fitzmaurice and Michael Try.  The final game of the group stages was against a very good Eggar’s School side, however, this was Salesian’s best performance with an outstanding 5-0 victory with goals from Louie Gilpin (2), Conor Fitzmaurice, Michael Try and Samuel Henneberg.

Salesian progressed into the semi-final with a game against Yateley School.  After falling behind early on a penalty, Samuel Henneberg drew Salesian level late in the first half.  From here Salesian pulled away and into the final with goals from Ryan Blake, Louie Gilpin and Michael Try leading to a 4-1 triumph.

The final match was a repeat of last year’s with Salesian playing Robert May’s School.  In an exciting match it was 2-2 at the end of normal time with Salesian’s goals coming from Louie Gilpin and Conor Fitzmaurice.  However, in extra time Salesian took the lead with goals from Gilpin, Fitzmaurice and Henneberg which led to victory and Salesian being champions for the third year in the last six years.

Salesian now progress to the English School’s Southern 5-a-side Regional finals in January at Soccer City.

Well done boys!
