100% GCSE Pass Rate

Following the 100% pass rate achieved by the Sixth Form students at A Level last Thursday, the College today celebrated a double success with a 100% pass rate at GCSE. As one of the few schools in the area which has students from 11-18, both the GCSE and A Level results are locally and nationally outstanding.
Over 80% of all grades gained at GCSE were A*-B with boys being awarded an average of ten GCSE’s each.
Out of a Year 11 cohort of 98 boys, 91 gained 11 GCSE’s. 58 of the boys gained seven or more A*/A grades, with 22 boys being awarded at least 10A*/A grades.
The top student this year was Jack Cafferkey who swept the board with a straight 11 A* grades, followed closely by Joseph Barker, Alex Birly and Oliver Hunt who each achieved 10 A*’s and 1 A grade.
Once again all our boys have achieved nationally outstanding GCSE results, which provide them with a firm foundation for A Level and University applications in a year’s time. Increasingly, both University Admissions Tutors and Recruitment Consultants are paying attention to GCSE results. The headline and front page article in the Daily Telegraph today (Tuesday 24th August) is 'University candidates selected on their GCSE results'. The article states that "Pupils who fail to excel at their GCSEs are being discriminated against by universities increasingly using the exams to weed out candidates for degree courses." The fact that our boys as a cohort have truly excelled is therefore even more reason why all of our boys can be deservedly delighted with their achievements this year and I congratulate them and all the staff who have worked so hard to support them.
