Chemistry Success
On Thursday 21 April, a team of Year 8 students took part in the Salters’ Festival of Chemistry at the University of Surrey in Guildford. The day was most interesting, and in the afternoon the team, consisting of Kumar Dixit (2SH), Tom Hosty (2SD), Jonathan Kimber (2SA) and Freddie Offley (2SB) took part in the “University Challenge Schools’ Competition”, involving the creation and setting of dyes suitable for textiles. The four students worked admirably as a team and were delighted to be awarded second place in a strong field of 14 schools from Surrey, Hampshire and Sussex. In addition to individual prizes and certificates, the team won two molecular building kits to use in the Chemistry Department. Congratulations are also deserved by the three Chemistry teachers involved, Mr McAnerney, who organized the team and entry, Mr Best and Miss Steele.
