The Library
The College Library and Learning Resource Centre contains around 7,000 books, audio-visual materials and resource packs, as well as newspapers and magazines, and photocopying facility. There are 13 computers for student use. It is managed using the Eclipse database, available to all students & staff around the College and at home via Library Eclipse on the VLE.
There is a TouchScreen in the library for constant student access to Eclipse with its wide range of information based on the library catalogue, including direct links to recommended websites.
The Resource Centre is run by a full time librarian and an assistant librarian who help students to use the library effectively and who liaise with teaching staff and students regularly in updating stock. The librarians are assisted daily by a large number of student librarians, who also help to run competitions and other library events.
This area of the College is a silent study area, with the exception of break-times when it is a centre for more varied library activities. Year 7 follows a Library Study Skills programme on entering the college. The library is regularly used by the English Department for reading lessons and other English studies and it is often booked by other departments for research-based lessons. It is also open for homework every day until 5.00pm.
